This Privacy Policy applies to the File Transfer+ mobile application (the “Application”, package name: com.mf.filetransfer), developed by Mehra Foundation. File Transfer+ is built from the ground up as an offline, peer-to-peer file sharing and local network shared folder utility. We believe your files, transfers, and private data belong exclusively to you.

1. Information Collection and Use

  • No Personal Data Collected: The Application does not collect, record, harvest, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII), device analytics, or usage statistics.
  • Local Network Only: All file transfers and device discovery mechanisms operate strictly within your Local Area Network (LAN) using standard multicast DNS (mDNS) and local network sockets. No data is transmitted outside your local network.
  • No Cloud Servers: We do not operate any intermediary servers or databases. Files are transferred directly from device to device.

2. Device Permissions Required

The Application requests only the minimal set of operating system permissions strictly necessary to discover local devices and exchange user-selected files:

  • Local Network & Wi-Fi (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE): Strictly utilized to broadcast discovery beacons (mDNS and UDP) and establish direct peer-to-peer TCP/HTTP connections on your local Wi-Fi. The app never makes outbound requests to external internet servers.
  • Storage & Media Access (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 10 and below, READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO, and Android Storage Access Framework): Utilized solely to read and host folders/files explicitly chosen by the user via the system document/folder picker, and to save incoming files to the user's Downloads directory. The app does not request full filesystem access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) and does not scan, index, or access any other files on your device.
  • Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC) & Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used exclusively to maintain background file server hosting and keep active file transfers running reliably when the app is minimized or the screen is locked.
  • Camera (CAMERA): Used on-demand strictly within the in-app QR scanner to pair devices. No camera frames or video data are ever saved, recorded, or transmitted.

3. Local Web Portal Access

When you enable "Host Shared Folder", the app runs a private local HTTP file server on your Wi-Fi network:

  • Devices on your network can view and download hosted files directly via their web browser or another instance of the Application.
  • Access is restricted according to the security mode you configure: Open, numeric PIN, or QR token authentication.
  • This web portal is entirely local to your private Wi-Fi network and is never exposed to the public internet.

4. Third-Party Services & Data Selling

  • Zero Third-Party SDKs: The Application does not incorporate any third-party advertising SDKs, marketing trackers, or telemetry libraries.
  • We Do Not Sell Your Data: Because we do not collect, store, or transmit your data, we never sell, monetize, or share your personal information or files under any circumstances.

5. Opt-Out Rights & Data Retention

Because the Application does not collect or retain any personal data on remote servers, there is no personal data to retain, delete, or opt-out of. You can manage or revoke the app's permissions at any time through your device's Android System Settings.

6. Children's Privacy

The Application does not collect or request data from anyone, including children under 13 years of age.

7. Security

We use industry-standard local networking protocols, PIN hashing, and temporary authentication tokens to ensure your local transfers and shared folders remain accessible only to authorized devices on your private Wi-Fi network.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect future feature enhancements. Updates will be published directly on this page with a revised effective date.
